Over the past 20 years, states have recognized the rapid expansion of family courts significantly impacted parents, children and state communities. This system appears to entrap parents in a lack of transparency, accountability, and accessible recourse, causing long-term harm during critical stages of a child's development and parental relationships.

 

It is important for individuals to understand that family courts are administrative agencies rather than traditional courts of law. These agencies goals prioritize financial interests which frequently leads to prolonged cases and the use of children as leverage, potentially resulting in harm. The primary focus should always be on the safety and well-being of parents and children. The language used by financial stakeholders creates the appearance that the system favors specific interests while obscuring the associated risks and how rights are denied to both parents and children.​​
